The Queen Loaf
Collaborating with other artists is a meaningful part of our practice here at Dillon/Rose.
We have enjoyed the beautiful sourdough loaves from baker Cat Cox for a while. As we learned more about her intentional practice and how she sources her grains, mills her own flour and bakes in her cottage bakery we fell more and more in love with her intentional, creative baking process. One night the idea of baking jewelry into bread struck us and we called Cat immediately.

One night the idea of baking jewelry into bread struck us and we called Cat immediately.
We designed a ring to honor women, handed it off to Cat and she worked her magic. On the first day of Women's History Month we invited a group of female artists into the studio to gather, inspire and break bread together. They knew there was a ring in the loaf, but no one knew who would find it. Branjae Jackson , incredible Tulsa performer and musician, found the diamond and ruby ring to her surprise and delight!
Cast in Recycled 18 Karat Yellow Gold we designed the ring to hold:
A princess cut diamond to honor our creative sisters, who are royal in our eyes. Diamonds are said to be the strongest known substance to man but we know that our creative women friends are even stronger.
A round ruby because women are the bearers of life, the circle of life is within our bleeding bodies.
A baguette diamond to remember that each of us have female ancestors whose responsibility it was to provide food for the community. Taking care of one another is in our DNA.
