Wisdom Set in Stone

DSAPPHIRE

The stones we work with have a rich and complex story to tell. A stone's place of origin, it's unique chemical make-up and the historic heritage of each stone, often tell stories of fantasy and scientific inspiration. One of our favorite stones that continues to surprise and delight us with complexity is the Sapphire.Sapphire Earrings custom local made
For thousands of years blue sapphires have been cherished by royalty, religious sects and hundreds of cultures. Long thought to symbolize wisdom, the vibrant stone has adorned robes of clergy, the crowns of queens and princesses and burial ornaments of ancient kings.
Worn in the ancient and medieval worlds as a talisman for wisdom and protection, it was believed that a sapphire could protect its wearer from poison, plague, fever and even black magic. Ancient Persians believed the earth actually rested on a giant sapphire, which made the sky blue.

For more than 2,000 years sapphires of incredible brilliance and saturation have been sourced in Sri Lanka ("The Jewel Box of the Indian Ocean") and around many Southeast Asian countries. We are now sourcing many sapphires out of Montana and Australia and finding a wider range of colors. Sapphire is made of the mineral corundum, consisting of Aluminum Oxide (α-Al2O3), and is second only to diamond on the hardness scale of gemstones, making it an ideal stone to wear often and pass down through generations.
