Rings as Talismans
Rings are talismans - placing a ring on your finger every morning can set the tone for your entire day by bringing to mind powerful thoughts. As a designer, my responsibility is to create a symbol that honors the thoughts you want top of mind and make a piece that you can wear in the world without worry.
When designing I keep 3 things in mind - structure, aesthetic and story. I typically start with the story - what will this ring symbolize for the person wearing it? How do I convey elements important to who they are or who they want to be? I often visualize them putting the ring on in the morning and wonder what it will bring to mind - love, adventure, connection, delight. Symbols are powerful tools to connect us and remind ourselves who we want to be.
When considering aesthetic I ask myself how do I make this person feel more confident, empowered and connected with this design? You walk into a room more confidently with jewelry on, it displays that you have considered yourself and are worth considering before you ever open your mouth.
I want to design pieces that can be passed down for generations. The engagement rings that we create are meant to be worn everyday, their strength and structure must be superb. You should feel confident living your life in them without concern. Our engagement rings are made with more gold material than most jewelry because I want them to last. The prongs and stone settings are typically larger so there is more metal around the stones, creating a stronger setting.
When structure, aesthetic and story are integrated, an heirloom talisman has been created. A piece you will live your life in and pass down to the next generation with story and beauty and value. What are the thoughts you want to start your day with? How do you symbolize them?
