Custom Jewelry Design Highlight: Opal Pendant
When working with one-of-a-kind stones, the stone always influences the final design. Sometimes it's a pattern or creature I see within the gem that inspires the design, sometimes it's the way it's been cut or carved by the lapidarist. Many opals like this one call to mind galaxies and landscapes, worlds ripe for imagination.
I used one of our featured opals of 2023's Opal Showcase to design this 18K yellow gold pendant for a client. Open space above the stone leaves room for the imagination to continue, the galaxy to expand. Two little diamonds, set on the edge of the brown wave within the stone mark the transition from one perspective to another.
